Film / Analogue Photography
Joanne’s interest in photography is primarily film photography, with expired and experimental films, double exposures, and creative analogue processes, like polaroid lifts. She has a real love and appreciation for film photography, and is a bit of a film purist — she prefers to capture the magic in-camera, believing film photography's a unique expression of the photographer’s eye, the camera and film type. Joanne regularly participates in Holga Week, and is a big supporter of the film community, volunteering as co-producer of the C41 Coffee Film Photo Contest, a locally exhibited contest open Internationally.
The Land, in Urban Spaces
Layered with urban and developed spaces, the land pushes through each frame, reclaiming it’s place — a reminder of what was before, and will be again. Captured on film, this series of double exposures speaks to the resilience and power of the land, and the importance of nature in urban spaces..
Resilience: Nature and Urban Spaces
This double-exposure series speaks to me of resilience, and the beauty and power of nature. Nature will reclaim what it can, growing through cracks in concrete and overtaking abandoned spaces. The layering of frames feels like a glimpse of what came before the urban spaces were developed — or what might come after.
Holga Photography
The legendary history of Holga cameras all started with the Holga 120S — it’s the original Holga, the first model ever made and since discontinued.
I adore my Holga 120S camera. It seems magical, with impossibly beautiful images. I love everything about Holga images — I love their dreamy quality, the miraculously sharp focus sometimes possible, and their delightfully unpredictable nature.
Accidental Tourist Series
Studies of Mark for a creative project turned out more like a series of old tourist photos from the 60’s. Shot on my Belair X 6-12 Jetsetter camera with Kosmo Foto Mono B&W 35mm Film. I named the series “Accidental Tourist Series”.
I’m incredibly honoured “Accidental Tourist 04” made Official Selection and Honorable Mention in the Film/Analog Portrait category in the 2023 International Photography Awards (IPA).
