100 Days of.... Creativity Challenge!
I decided to take on a '100 Days of...' Creativity Challenge – choosing something you're passionate about and repeating on the theme for 100 Days... I picked 'Ocean'. I love the sea and all things related. My parameters are to do a small piece related to the ocean, postcard or card-sized, in any medium, every day. I started last night with a sketch of a few shells collected growing up in Cape Town.

Harmony Arts Group Show 2105
A little promo for a lovely summer festival and my newest artwork… If you’re at the Harmony Arts Festival this year, check out the Group Art Show in the outdoor tent. This year’s theme is ‘Harmony & Discord’ and one of my paintings will be on display.
This year’s juried Group Exhibition features the mixed media works of artists Exploring Balance in Art: Harmony and Discord. The theme for this exhibition asks artists where harmony and balance are found in our lives, art or nature. These opposing states are explored in works that encourage conversation. All artworks are available for purchase.
Exhibition Tent outside the Ferry Building Gallery, 1414 Argyle Avenue
July 31–August 9 • 11 a.m.–8 p.m.
Opening Reception: July 31 • 6 p.m.

ArtWalk 2015! Opening this Saturday, June 27th
If you’re in Whistler this weekend – or anytime over the summer – check out ArtWalk 2015! It’s a fun event – artists are paired with local businesses, creating a series of pop-up galleries in Whistler village for two months. It’s a great way to see and support local artists and businesses, and I’m excited to be one of the 60+ artists participating thus year.
Opening Day party is Saturday, June 27th – live music, entertainment and artist demos on the village stroll, and a series of art socials at 'hot spot' venues throughout the village. And it runs from June 27th to August 31st, with special events planned over the various weekends.
My venue’s the Whistler Eye Clinic, where I have 4 pieces on display. Sadly my venue won’t stay open for the Opening Night, but I’ll have 2 additional pieces on display in the Maurice Young Millennium Place Gallery for the Opening and the duration of the ArtWalk.

Whistler Art Workshop summer 2014
Summer 2014
Last summer's I signed up for a 3-day art workshop, Expressive Acrylics, with Suzanne Northcott. The workshop was offered by the Whistler Arts Council, and their Workshops on the Lake program, on Alta Lake in a wonderful, old lake house.
I’d been looking for the right workshop to advance my understanding of acrylics and the painting process, with an artist who’s work I admire – I found it with Suzanne. She’s a wonderful teacher, known for reaching each artist at their own level, no matter the group. She excelled her reputation, and I learned a great deal from her. Over the three days I completed four pieces, each an evolution, becoming more painterly and layered. I was infused with renewed energy and inspiration, and a solid understanding of the painting process.
Learning to paint like I draw – meaning, being as comfortable with the medium of acrylic paint as I am with chalk pastels, relaxing into the work without being conscious of the process. Many years ago I drew The Back in Chalks, and this weekend I translated it into paint, and hit a high moment when I actually felt like I was ‘drawing’.
